INITIATIVE FOR THE EVENT

In the wake of Christmas in 2023, PT Nippon Steel Solution Indonesia held a CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiative titled Christmas Charity to participate in a charity event by donating money and visiting two major orphanages in Jakarta, namely the Griya Kasih orphanage and Talenta Kasih orphanage.

Griya Kasih is a Catholic-based orphanage in Central Jakarta that was established in 1996. It serves as a shelter and a living quarter for local orphans or poor children whose parents are absent. To accommodate the children’s growth and development, Griya Kasih also serves as an educational institute that provides formal education from the kindergarten through high school. Apart from formal education, Griya Kasih also provides children with various informal extracurricular activities to the children, such as handicrafts, martial arts, and music.

Just like its Central Jakartan counterpart, Talenta Kasih is a Catholic-based orphanage that first started its service in Sunter, North Jakarta, in 1998. It first started as a social service that assisted young women who could not properly take care of their babies due to marriage problems, economic status, or health condition. As the number of babies and children grew in time, Talenta Kasih extended its services to a new branch in Cempaka Putih. Apart from the orphanage and shelter services, Talenta Kasih also regularly donated sembako (nine essentials) to the impoverished.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY

The visit was held in 16th of December 2023, with NSSOL Indonesia’s director, Nakanishi Yosuke, directly participating in this event, alongside Michael Edison, the business solutions manager. The first visit to Griya Kasih Orphanage was done at 7 AM in the morning, where Mr. Nakanishi and Mr. Michael conversed with the orphanage directors and staffs, as well as looked around the orphanage’s facilities and visiting the resident children to take photos. NSSOL Indonesia ended their visit with a group photo and a symbolic donation session to memorialize the event.

Afterwards, the team moved on to visit the second orphanage, Talenta Kasih. Likewise, Mr. Nakanishi and Mr. Michael first formally introduced themselves to the orphanage directors and staff members, visited the resident children and looked around the surrounding facilities available within the orphanage. The staff members also showcased various activities that the staff members and children alike do. In Talenta Kasih, most staff members are notably part-timer workers who volunteered as a side job. They usually have their own small businesses to run and the income that they obtained is used to financially support the orphanage’s operation. Likewise, NSSOL Indonesia’s visit ended with a group photo and symbolic donation to the orphanage. These visits were notably well received by the orphanage staff members and residents alike.

One of the Christmas Charity initiative’s purposes is to contribute to the improvement of life quality and education among orphaned children in Jakarta. As the children’s development are influenced by their environment, NSSOL Indonesia wishes to contribute by offering a donation to the orphanages that are responsible for the children’s physical and mental growth. To support this statement, Nakanishi Yosuke, the president director of NSSOL Indonesia, said, “Donation serves as a powerful tool for organizations to not only fulfill their social responsibility but also to build a strong, ethical, and sustainable organizational culture rooted in empathy, integrity, and continuous improvement.” In general, charity and donation activities may have a significant impact on the organization’s morales, as employees can be motivated to contribute to greater and meaningful causes in the society while staying committed to the organization’s goals and continuous improvements to create a healthy working environment.

With the Christmas Charity 2023 event, NSSOL Indonesia has once again proved their commitment to fulfilling the corporate social responsibility. Previously, NSSOL Indonesia had also participated in donating qurban during Eid Al-Adha 2023 as a part of the long-term CSR agenda.
